Wilbur Road
Thousand Oaks CA 91360
Re: Annual Report — Therapeutic Riding at Walnut Grove
Dear Tom:
Last August the Board of Directors of the Park District approved Ride On's Therapeutic Riding
Program at the Walnut Grove site. In this last year, Ride On has begun serving disabled residents
of the Conejo Valley. Phase I Program Startup of this project is complete. Phase II — Program
Expansion will continue for a period of several years as we expand to take full advantage of the
site. Phase III Construction of Permanent Improvements envisioned in the concept plan awaits
funding. Below are details of progress to date.
Site Repairs and Improvements
The following site improvements and repairs, consistent with the concept plan presented last
August, were carried out:
• The 20 -stall barn was renovated including: re -roof and place 8 skylights; repair to existing
electrical system; repairs to stalls to make them safe for horses; buildout of two
storage/tack areas.
• Office trailer and meeting space was installed with handicapped access;
• Caretaker trailer and handicapped accessible bathroom was installed with a holding tank
waste system
• A caretaker, a long-time volunteer of Ride On in Chatsworth and approved by the CRPD,
is on-site.
Program Operations
Lessons began May 16, 2001. As of June 30, Ride On had 19 students enrolled and 10 on the
waiting list. The CRPD continues to advertise both our program and our need for volunteers which
has been extremely helpful. Our first joint effort with the Therapeutics Program will take place
this summer when 8 children from the summer camp for autistic children ride at Ride On.
A 501 (6)(3) non-profit corporation.
