May 10, 2001
Page 5
C. Administration Division Report
No report.
D. General Managers Report
Ward reported that the District website received CARPD's (California
Association of Recreation and Park Districts) Best Electronic Media award.
He reviewed the status of Senate Bill 707, revision of the Public Resources
Code, relative to recreation and park districts. He said that it is anticipated it
will be referred to the governor within the month, and a letter of support will
be sent to Senator Torlakson and members of the Senate Committee on
Local Government.
Concluding, Ward said that it is anticipated that a contract with the City,
relative to 401 Hillcrest, will be presented at the next meeting.
Lange stated his appreciation for Ward's work on Senate Bill 707, and noted
Ward's recognition at the recent CARPD conference. On behalf of the
Board, Gibson commended Ward for his role in the successful assessment
district effort.
E. Directors' Reports
Lange reported on upcoming special events including the SMMC (Santa
Monica Mountains Conservancy) and MRCA (Mountains Recreation and
Conservation Authority) dedication of the Frankel Discovery Center at
Augustus F. Hawkins Natural Park on May 21, a trail dedication ceremony at
Triunfo Creek Park on May 19, and a special tour of the City's Public Works
Department on May 24.
Berger discussed Trails Education Day activities, and invited all to
participate.
Gibson requested a brief meeting of the Park Naming Committee, and
suggested that a Board presentation be scheduled on the District's
environmentally sensitive pest and weed control practices.
