As restrictions continue to loosen, established classes can
be offered once again rather than experimental offerings that have a risk of not working out.
Unfortunately, Hillcrest Center for the Arts (HCFA) and the Goebel Adult Community Center (GACC) have yet to see
this improvement due to the nature of their classes, demographics, and programming space.
Despite tripling the number of skate classes offered at the Borchard Community Center (BOC), the demand still
exceeds what they are able to accommodate. However, a second instructor has been hired for the Spring session. The
preschool programs also have filled up, along with classes for preschool-aged participants. The unit has also found
success with growing their virtual programs, drawing in an additional 50-100 participants per program session.
Waitlists for Sports programs were seen in golf, pickleball, and tennis. The county guidance for sports limits the
number of participants that can be in each class, and there are still a number of instructors who are not yet
comfortable returning to work. Health and safety concerns at the Westlake Golf Course led to the cancellation of six
classes that would have been offered there. Pickleball continues to be extremely popular, and with only so many
courts available, there is no way to accommodate any waitlisted patrons at this time.
