CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />March 18, 2021 <br />6:00 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />M I N U T E S <br />Nickles called the meeting to order at 6:03 pm and Hagel led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Cusworth, Holt, Huffer, Lange, Nickles <br />Directors Absent: <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrators Callis (via Zoom), Hare and <br />Smith, IT Assistant Bermudez and Executive Assistant Reynders <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br />Safe Passage Program — Tim Hagel <br />Hagel, President of Safe Passage, gave a PowerPoint presentation entitled: Safe Passage, <br />"The Path to Literacy, Resilience, Joy and Jobs." He described the program's origins, <br />beginning with the "Homework Club," and its initial goal to steer children away from <br />participating in troublesome behavior and possible gang affiliation. It is essentially an outreach <br />program for vulnerable youth from Grades K-6. He reviewed the approaches used, the <br />stakeholders, goals, and activity components. Hagel answered Board member's questions and <br />was thanked for his contributions to the program and for his presentation this evening. <br />4. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC <br />It was moved by Lange, seconded by Cusworth, and carried 5-0 to approve the agenda <br />as presented. <br />A.
