Recreation & Community Services <br />Recreation Division Highlights Page 1 of 5 Revised 01.2021 <br /> Recreation Division Highlights <br />Thursday, January 14, 2021 <br /> <br />Thousand Oaks Community Center <br /> <br />Our Fall/Winter session ended on a high note. We offered three half-day sewing camps and four <br />half day winter camps for a total of 41 students. Participants socially distanced while participating in games, crafts and sports activities all themed to the winter. Others, participating in the sewing <br />camps made facemasks and other small projects to giveaway just in time for the holidays. <br />Our Winter session of classes are off to a good start: <br />• Karate classes are going full steam, with 40 students attending evening classes since the beginning of January. The instructor has adapted all his classes for social distancing placing <br />visual aids, and even added a bullhorn to better communicate directions. Parents all sit at <br />a distance around the park to watch their children learn katas and self-defense techniques. <br />• Zumba, a Latin dance fusion of styles for fun and fitness, is now offered 3 days per week. <br />• QuaranTEAM continues with an afternoon group of kids for the 6th consecutive month and <br />plans to continue until the end of the school year. <br />Aquatic Recreation <br />Winter Programming <br />Aquatics is currently offering parent/child, private, and semi-private swim lessons, swim team, stroke technique, and water walking classes. Registration for the second and third Winter Sessions <br />began on Monday, January 11 at 9:00am. Most classes are offered once or twice per week with morning options between 10:00am-12noon and afternoon options between 3:00-6:00pm. <br />
