Holt, Director Chuck Huffer, Director Nellie Cusworth, Director DATE: May 21, 2020 GENERAL MANAGER EMERITUS Tex Ward TO: Board of Directors FROM: Jim Friedl, General Mana SUBJECT: Resolution No. 052120-D Authorizing the Submittal of the Older Americans Act Grant Application to Ventura County Area Agency on Aging (VCAAA) for the Project Years July 1, 2020 — June 30, 2021 and July 1, 2021 — June 30, 2022 RECOMMENDATION Approve Resolution No. 052120-D authorizing submittal of the Older Americans Act Grant Application BACKGROUND The District assumed responsibility for administration of the Senior Nutrition Program from the City of Thousand Oaks in July 2010. The congregate lunch program is conducted from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday at the Goebel Adult Community Center. The dining room seats 56 people at one time; an average of 60 patrons are served daily. This service provides seniors with a nutritious meal and a place to socialize with their peers. Since COVID-19, the Senior Nutrition Lunch Program shifted from a Congregate Meal Program to a Pick- up/Delivery Program. Since March 18, we have added 300 new participants to the Program and are currently serving about 120 hot meals/day. To date, we have served close to 6,500 meals to seniors in our community. This includes hot meals, shelf stable meals, and frozen meals for the weekend. The grant the District receives from the VCAAA assists with the operating costs related to the program. If approved by the VCAAA, the award amount will be $101,101. The meals will go from $6.75/meal to $7.07/meal. This program is free to seniors in our community 60 years of age and older. We ask for a $3.00 donation, but it is not required. STRATEGIC PLAN COMPLIANCE Meets 2019-2023 Strategic Plan 3.2.4 — Continue to seek partnerships, collaborations and sponsorships (cash or in-kind)to offset capital facility and recreation programming costs, and 4.2 — Develop, maintain and enhance relationships with other government agencies serving our community such as the County of Ventura, national and state parks, Calleguas Municipal Water District, Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, and the City of Westlake Village.
