CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
ATHLETE RECOGNITION COMMITTEE
REGULAR MEETING
February 3, 2020
4:30 PM
HILLCREST CENTER
403 W. Hillcrest Drive
Thousand Oaks, CA 91360
Recreation Conference Room
MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER
Lange called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Directors Lange and Huffer, Administrator Callis, Recreation Service
Manager Duerr, and Recreation Supervisor Miller
3. PUBLIC COMMENTS
4. CONSIDER NOMINEE FOR YOUNG ATHLETE RECOGNITION AWARD
Lange requested staff contact local schools to arrange for a presentation to Athletic
Directors regarding the new process to nominate a student for the Young Athlete
Award. All High Schools within the District should be included.
Huffer asked that the Young Athlete Award not be limited to only one recipient each
year. If the CRPD Sports Advisory Council determines more than one athlete
should be nominated, then the committee should be flexible on the number of
recipients.
It would be beneficial to build a relationship with The Acorn Newspaper's Sports
Editors and ask them to be on the lookout for outstanding sports teams and
individuals. The Marketing & Communications department will distribute a press
release in The Acorn notifying Athletic Directors of this opportunity. An ad will be
placed with The Acorn annually (in May or June) announcing and congratulating
the winners of the Young Athlete Award.
The recipients will receive a personalized medal with a neck ribbon and box.
