Regional Parks (such as Wildwood) generally serve the entire region. These parks may include
unique natural areas and specialized recreational facilities such as campgrounds, wilderness
areas, nature study, outdoor education, hiking trails, equestrian facilities, and museums.
Maintenance budget is allocated to each park according to the park size and amenities; Capital
budget is allocated through the 10 Year Capital Improvement Plan. This plan is presented to our
board every other year during the budget process — Years 1 and 2 are budgeted, Years 3 — 10
are for planning purposes only. There are over 200 projects with an estimated $100 million costs
associated in the 10 Year Plan.
ITEM #2
The overall appearance of our park (Kimber Park) is outdated, worn, and tired looking. The plants
and bushes are now 18 years old. Many are dead or in need of pruning, but since they have not
been maintained, the pruning would just leave the dead looking, inner part of the bushes. We
noticed Banyan Park has the butterfly bush, lavender and succulents/cactus that are drought
tolerant and easy growing. Would it be possible to refurbish the landscape along Wendy drive that
is only dirt and 5 old bushes with similar plants and more boulders?
In response to the drought, CRPD has committed funds each fiscal year to provide irrigation
improvements, native and drought tolerant planting throughout the District's park system. CRPD
staff will investigate performing such a project at Kimber and provide interested parties with a
conceptual plan before commencing construction. These projects are generally completed in the
spring of each year
ITEM #3
The landscape on Bear Creek has some ground cover that has been turned mainly into dirt since
people park and walk down the hill for the playground and frisbee football and other sports. Is
there any chance of getting some stepping stones or even a decomposed granite path from the
street to the play fields so that this area is more attractive and not mainly dirt?
These suggested improvements will be considered in the above-mentioned conceptual plan in
ITEM #2.
ITEM #4
Perhaps a discussion with Aztec would be helpful as Kimber Park does need basic attention that
we are not getting. The trees are in need of trimming and we have some large branches that have
broken off that remain even after Aztec has been there. There is a broken sprinkler and long pipe
on the Kimber/Wendy Park entrance that has been there for months. An elderly man waters the
2 near dead bushes at that entrance by the trash can.
Staff will investigate and coordinate with Aztecalin house staff as appropriate to remedy.
ITEM #5
The walking trail needs attention as there are several tree roots along the Wendy side that are a
major concern to prevent tripping. The trail is in better shape now than last year; however, Aztec
just adds loose sand in the erosion areas that come from excessive water that should be
compacted to keep it even.
Staff will investigate and coordinate with Aztecalin house staff as appropriate to remedy.
21 Page
