CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />June 6, 2019 <br />7:00 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Lange called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and Haggan, Stark and the essay contest <br />winners led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Cusworth, Halt, Lange, Nickles <br />Directors Absent: Huffer <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrators Hare and Lewanda, <br />Recreation Services Manager Duerr and Executive Assistant Reynders <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br />Conejo Open Space Trails Education Days Writing Contest Winners - <br />Elayne Haggan <br />Isabella Bass <br />Acacia Elementary <br />Auden Chan <br />Westlake Hills Elementary (absent) <br />Otto Gasowski <br />Westlake Elementary <br />Leah Muger <br />Banyan Elementary <br />Isabella Steiner <br />Banyan Elementary <br />Haggan introduced the contest winners and provided some statistics from this year's Trails <br />Education Days. 1,001 CVUSD 4th graders attended Trails Education Days, which included <br />a one-hour nature hike through Wildwood Canyon. 75 volunteers plus the COSCA Ranger <br />Staff made this year's program possible. Funding was provided by the Conejo Open Space <br />Foundation. This year, 880 essays were received; volunteers Melanie Ashen and Stephanie <br />Sher, introduced by Haggan and in the audience, were vital to the success of this year's essay <br />contest. Haggan introduced the winners and acknowledged their teachers. Friedl presented <br />each winner with a gift of appreciation; Board members congratulated and thanked the <br />winners. <br />4. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC <br />Cathy Carlson urged the District to cease any plans for upgrades to La Canada Park due to <br />the School District's plan to sell some surplus property. She believes the park could be a <br />moneymaker for the School District. <br />
