Review and Discuss Therapeutic Recreation Program and Facility
Needs
Assessment
Friedl stated that the Board, at their strategic planning retreat in April of
2016, identified a need to review CRPD's Therapeutic Program, and in
October of 2016, authorized staff to begin that process by entering into a
contract with Recreation Accessibility Consultants (The W -T Group, LLC).
Callis thanked Laufenberg, Recreation Supervisor and Herbert, Recreation
Therapist, for all their assistance, and turned the presentation over to John
McGovern, President of The W -T Group, LLC.
McGovern introduced his firm and reviewed and summarized the information
provided in the Board packet, including general observations of the District
and the CRPD Therapeutic Recreation Program, a review of demographic
data, comparable data from similar recreation therapeutic programs and
recommendations arising from his observations.
Board members thanked McGovern for his informative presentation.
Discussion ensued including the possibility of pursuing partnerships with
surrounding communities to serve a broader base of the population; allowing
for adaptation and modification of current programs so as to address the
challenges some patrons face with accessibility and accommodations;
making classes more inclusive; and looking at other districts who are doing
this successfully, especially those referenced by McGovern.
9.
