Staff evaluated each product offered by the vendors and determined that the Quinn Company
(Caterpillar 302.7D) is a superior Excavator and would provide greater productivity, effectiveness
and efficiency. Although it is priced the highest, the Caterpillar 302.7D:
• Has a dozer blade with a float function (John Deere 26G and Kubota U25 do not have this
feature), making ground leveling and site clean-up much more effective,
• Has an adjustable flow control for auxiliary hydraulics (John Deere 26G and Kubota U25
do not have this feature), enabling greater tool control,
Has an auto idle function (John Deere 26G and Kubota U25 do not have this feature),
enabling the machine to return to idle when not using controls, thus saving fuel,
• Is the quietest of the three machines,
• Has an attachment coupler (John Deere 26G has this feature, Kubota U25 does not) that
can be adjusted for wear over time,
• In staffs opinion, performed the smoothest in transport and operation during the
demonstration,
• Has the largest fuel tank (9.3 gallons), enabling longer period of use before refueling (John
Deere 26G (9 gallons) and Kubota U25 (7.4 gallons).
Staff considers the cost of the equipment to be fair and reasonable.
STRATEGIC PLAN COMPLIANCE
Meets 2017 Strategic Plan Element 3.3: Create and maintain an annual equipment replacement
plan. Provide funding for all District equipment valued over $5,000, based upon equipment life
expectancy and expected inflation; complete inventory and new numbering/tagging of equipment
assets; establish a process for ongoing updates and inventories.
Respectfully submitted by,
T. P. Hare
Administrator, Parks & Planning
Attachment
