SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS

Goebel Adult Community Center/Conejo Senior Volunteer Program/Teen Center

Callis reported this presentation is a preview of what will be shown to the Thousand Oaks City
Council next month. Duerr, Recreation Services Manager, introduced Spivack, Director,
Conejo Senior Volunteer Program (CSVP) and Daub, Recreation Supervisor, Teen Center.
Duerr is subbing in for Hamm, Recreation Supervisor, Goebel Adult Community Center
(GACC), this evening, as she is currently facilitating the Cinco de Mayo party at the GACC.

Duerr recapped the past year at the GACC and emphasized the importance of the partnership
the Center has with the City of Thousand Oaks. The pandemic forced the shutdown of a variety
of programs, many of which have since returned, including, to name just a few, Bingo, Ballroom
Dance and parties featuring live entertainment, such as the St. Patrick’s Day Party. The GACC
offers over 60 unique classes and dozens of drop-in programs. Duerr noted that, along with
Thousand Oaks Community Center and Dos Vientos Community Center, the GACC has
become a location for an official ballot drop box (located outside). Duerr also presented details
of the improvements currently being made at the Center.

Spivack updated the Board on the CSVP’s activities over the past year. Over 900 volunteers
have been placed at 70 local partner agencies in and around the Conejo Valley. The Goebel
Café, which closed during the pandemic, reopened on September 20, 2021, and has been
serving breakfast ever since. All proceeds support CSVP programming. The Senior Lunch
program moved back indoors on July 12, 2021, (after serving via drive-thru and walk up for 16
months.) The 2022 Wellness Fest, held on January 19th, included 41 vendors from a multitude
of agencies and was a very successful event, despite the fact that it was moved outdoors at
the very last minute. The CSVP free income tax program recently completed its 32nd year; it
ran from February 1st to April 15th at the Conejo Creek South Community Building and at the
