The
garden has grown from 35 plots to 165, and many improvements have been made over
the years, including a pavilion, front gate, children's garden, butterfly and wildflower habitat,
orchard, easy access U -boxes, and greenhouse. She introduced Diana Lovejoy, Vice
President, and past President, Jimmy Winston. She expressed her appreciation for
CRPD's Capital Improvement Project grants that have made the improvements possible,
and she encouraged the board members to visit the garden. She proposed that CRPD
host Arbor Earth Day at Waverly Park and that LFCG co-sponsor. The Board thanked
Susan for her great presentation, and she fielded further comments and questions.
Paul Edelman, Chief of Natural Resources and Planning, gave a presentation about the
Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC)/Mountains Recreation and
Conservation Authority (MRCA) Open Space Initiative. He discussed the Governor's
Executive Order to save 30% of the State's lands and waters by 2030 (30 by 30 project),
and how the Conservancy can play a role in implementing the initiative. The key to funding is through the State Wildlife Conservation
Board. In order to utilize those funds, you have to get a Dept. of Fish & Wildlife approved
