Short 111, Director <br />GENERAL MANAGER EMERITUS <br />Tex Ward <br />Subject: Award Contract to MUSCO Lighting for Athletic Field Light Improvements <br />at Thousand Oaks Community Park <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Determine the purchase and installation of MUSGU Sportscluster Green Sports <br />Lighting System has unique design/performance specifications and quality <br />features which integrate with existing District lighting systems. <br />2. Award contract to MUSCO Lighting, in the amount of $277,262.50 plus a <br />$12,737.50 contingency amount for a total amount of $290,000, for purchase and <br />installation of MUSCO Lighting athletic field lights at Thousand Oaks Community <br />Park. Funds are available from in the next Fiscal Year CIP budget. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Thousand Oaks Community Park is a heavily utilized facility and is permitted for soccer, <br />flag football, softball, and lacrosse, among others. Replacing the 32 -year old athletic <br />field lights with better quality, more efficient lighting would enhance the quality of the <br />recreational programs and increase its availability for the field users. <br />The District has been utilizing MUSCO Lighting systems for all District athletic field light <br />needs since 2000. MUSCO Lighting systems, in comparison to other manufacturers, <br />provide the highest quality product, best lighting performance, best Control system, and <br />best overall life cycle costs when considering initial capital, and 30 year operational and <br />maintenance expenditures, and ranks first in all categories considered in a recent <br />independent study (Fairfax County Park Authority Athletic Field Lighting Technical <br />Report, August 2005). . <br />In order to integrate the lighting at Thousand Oaks Community Park with the District's <br />athletic field lighting at other District facilities, and since the proposed scope of work is <br />solely for the athletic field light fixture improvements, in accordance with the District <br />HILLCREST CENTER 403 WEST HILLCREST DRIVE, THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA 91360-4223 <br />(805) 495-6471 FAX: (805) 497-3199 E-MAIL: parks@crpd.org <br />
