(a) If a local agency provides any type of <br />5 compensation, salary, or stipend to a member of a legislative <br />6 body, or provides reimbursement for actual and necessary <br />7 expenses incurred by a member of a legislative body in the <br />8 performance of official duties, then all local agency officials <br />9 shall receive training in ethics pursuant to this article. <br />10 (b) Each local agency official shall receive at least two hours <br />11 of training in general ethics principles and ethics laws relevant to <br />12 his or her public service every two years. <br />13 (c) If any entity develops curricula to satisfy the requirements <br />14 of this section, then the Fair Political Practices Commission and <br />15 the Attorney General shall be consulted regarding the sufficiency <br />16 and accuracy of any proposed course content. When reviewing <br />17 any proposed course content the Fair Political Practices <br />18 Commission and the Attorney General shall not preclude an <br />19 entity from also including local ethics policies in the curricula. <br />20 (d) A local agency or an association of local agencies may <br />21 offer one or more training courses, or sets of self -study materials <br />22 with tests, to meet the requirements of this section. These courses <br />23 may be taken at home, in-person, or online. <br />24 (e) All providers of training courses to meet the requirements <br />25 of this article shall provide participants with proof of <br />26 participation to meet the requirements of Section 53235.2. <br />27 (f) A local agency shall provide information on training <br />28 available to meet the requirements of this article to its local <br />29 officials at least once annually. <br />30 53235.1. (a) Each local agency official in local agency <br />31 service as of January 1, 2006, except for officials whose term of <br />32 office ends before January 1, 2007, shall receive the training <br />33 required by subdivision (a) of Section 53235 before January 1, <br />34 2007. Thereafter, each local agency official shall receive the <br />35 training required by subdivision (a) of Section 53235 at least <br />36 once every two years. <br />37 (b) Each local agency official who commences service with a <br />38 local agency on or after January 1, 2006, shall receive the <br />39 training required by subdivision (a) of Section 53235 no later <br />40 than one year from the first day of service with the local agency. <br />92 <br />
