GENERAL MANAGER
Tex Ward
(9O=O MMMM100 9 9)&= HOME,?
TO: Board of Directors
FROM: Sheryl Lewanda, Administrator
SUBJECT: Purchase of Replacement AS400
DATE: June 10, 2004
RECOMMENDATION
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Susan L. Holt, Chair
Michael D. Berger, Vice Chair
Mark H. Jacobsen, Director
George M. Lange, Director
Joe Gibson, Director
It is recommended that the Board approve the purchase of a replacement AS400
computer.
DISCUSSION
The current AS400, which is several years old and has been previously upgraded, now
requires a software upgrade to the most current version of its operating system, additional
disk space -- we are currently running at 80 percent capacity -- and a new software
subscription agreement. The combined cost of these required upgrades approaches the
cost of purchasing a new AS400, approximately $17,000. In addition to resolving the
issues above, the new system will provide 10 times the processing speed and twice the
available disk space, and will assure that we have sufficient processing capacity for the
next few years.
We propose to purchase the AS400 from Sirius, our IBM business partner, which
minimizes the lead time.
Staff anticipates the purchase can be accommodated within the existing data processing
budget, due to foregoing some other budgeted items and savings generated by
purchasing items for less than their budgeted amount.
Respectfully subtpitted,
Sheryl Le Wanda ~V
,'_ Administrator, Management Services
As4a06-04
HILLCREST CENTER • 403 WEST HILLCREST DRIVE • THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA 91360-4223
(805) 495-6471 • FAX: (805) 497-3199 • E-MAIL: parks@crpd.org • www.crpd.org
