We understand capital fundraising challenges faced by the Conejo
Recreation and Park District and have formed our non-profit to specifically support their efforts. To
date, we have raised funds for a therapeutic "special needs" playground and have sponsored over
100 low-income and disadvantaged children into CRPD programs —the highlight of which is the Safe
Passage Program operated in cooperation with the City of Thousand Oaks, Thousand Oaks Police
Department, the Conejo Valley Unified School District and California Lutheran University.
Sapwi Trails will add amenities to make the area accessible to nature enthusiasts and neophytes
alike. Trailheads, restrooms, interpretive signage plus miles of new multi -use trails with alluring creek
crossings and free recreational amenities will be added while simultaneously improving Lang Creek
and the Calleguas Creek Watershed. The location of this park is ideal because it is only 3 miles (a
short bike ride) from the heart of our Safe Passage Program. The park design will draw -in curious
kids and their exposure to convenient wild lands will resonate with many who will no doubt eventually
seek grander adventures in the wilds of the great public parks of the Santa Monica Mountains and
beyond.
The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy is renowned for its work preserving and protecting natural
lands and rivers and supporting publicly accessible parks in and around the Santa Monica Mountains.
Play Conejo is grateful for SMMC's innumerable past successes and encourages SMMC to support
yet another soon to be beloved park project.
Thank you for considering this letter and for all your efforts to preserve and protect natural lands and
rivers in and around our area.
Sincerely,
l
Mary Power
President
C".
