Approve Walnut Grove Equestrian Center Draft Master Plan,
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
George M. Lange, Chair
Susan L. Holt, Vice Chair
Joe Gibson, Director
Ed Jones, Director
Chuck Huffer, Director
GENERAL MANAGER EMERITUS
Tex Ward
2. Authorize staff to work with Ride On representatives to finalize Walnut Grove Equestrian
Center Master Plan, conduct neighborhood outreach, and return to the Board with a Final
Master Plan and appropriate environmental analysis.
DISCUSSION
In July 2000, the District entered into a 40 -year lease agreement with the non-profit Ride On to
provide therapeutic equestrian services and programs at Walnut Grove Equestrian Center. Since
the beginning of the lease, Ride On has provided a significant capital investment in the property
to initiate, improve and enhance the programs offered at the site. The extent of services provided
by Ride On has grown significantly; along with their facility in the San Fernando Valley, in 2016
Ride On provided approximately 7,500 lessons and treatments to an average of 225 clients on a
weekly basis. As planned, the renovations would extend the useful life of the facility through the
duration of the lease, provide additional programming opportunities and increase the
effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
Thus, District staff worked with Ride On to develop a Draft Master Plan (attached). As planned,
the renovated property would provide additional programming opportunities while increasing the
effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
If the Board approves the Draft Master Pian, staff will work with Ride On representatives to finalize
the draft Master Plan with the appropriate environmental analysis and will bring back the item for
the Board's consideration.
ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES
403 West Hillcrest Drive - Thousand Oaks, CA 91360-4223
(805) 495-6471 • FAX: (805) 497-3199 - Email: parks@crpd.org • Website: www.crpd.org
