GENERAL MANAGER BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Jim Friedl Joe Gibson, Chair
Ed Jones, Vice Chair
George Lange, Director
Susan L. Holt, Director
Chuck Huffer, Director
GENERAL MANAGER EMERITUS
Tex Ward
DATE: September 4, 2014
TO: Board of Directors
FROM: Jim Frie
SUBJECT: Expansion of Young Athlete Recognition Program Committee
Responsibilities
RECOMMENDATION
Expand the scope of the "Young Athlete Recognition Program Committee" to include adults for
possible special recognition of extraordinary athletic accomplishments.
DISCUSSION
The Conejo Recreation and Park District recognizes employees, volunteers and community
members through a variety of means. A list of the various means of recognition is attached as
Exhibit 1. As for sports prowess or athletic ability, the District has a program to recognize
young adults (both individuals and teams) for their extraordinary athletic achievements. This
award is prestigious and only given out on average twice/year. Past high school student
recipients include athletes who eventually went on to have successful college and professional
careers in a variety of sports and athletic endeavors. (Exhibit 2).
The ad hoc special recognition committee (Directors Holt & Huffer) met to discuss whether
similar recognition may be appropriate for adults in our community who perform remarkable
and extraordinary athletic achievements considering the difficulty or uniqueness of
accomplishment.
After some discussion, the committee felt (and staff concurs) that the existing Young Athlete
Recognition Program Committee could expand its scope to also recognize adults for
extraordinary athletic achievements.
403 West Hillcrest Drive I Thousand Oaks, CA 91360-4223
(805) 495-6471 FAX: (805) 497-3199 Email: parks@crpd.org
