Summary Notes of <br />Strategic Planning Study Session <br />Held on March 19, 2015 <br />The Strategic Planning Study Session was held on March 19, 2015 involved brainstorming, thoughts, <br />ideas and suggestions from individual board members as to what goals and priorities the District should <br />pursue over the next five years. <br />The following is a summary list of the items raised during the March 19`h Board of Directors meeting. <br />Before these items make it into the Strategic Plan, there should be awareness of the scope and goals of <br />within the existing Strategic Plan. The board should review these items to ensure there is a common <br />understanding and general appreciation of the issue(s) including the scope and depth and then refine <br />the topics, discuss, and determine what is ultimately included into the Strategic Plan update. <br />Water <br />Solar <br />Communicate and educate about the water situation and impact on the District <br />o Continue to remove turf and convert portions of parks to native, drought tolerant <br />vegetation. <br />o As parks continue to utilize less water, they will appear different and we must work <br />to raise community understanding of water challenges <br />What options may be available to help keep parks green? <br />o Maintaining green, safe playing fields is important <br />Artificial fields have costs issues? Potential performance & health issues? <br />o Consider park modifications for water conservation and water storage (stormwater <br />diversion / cisterns) <br />o Use of Groundwater (wells) <br />- Hold line on costs— strive for zero growth in water budget (water budget cap) <br />- Can we do more solar projects? Strive for more energy savings? <br />Tourism <br />- Can Conejo Recreation and Park District participate in transient occupancy tax revenues? <br />Can Conejo Valley Tourism Improvement District play a role <br />School Athletic Facilities <br />Is CVUSD interested in Conejo Recreation and Park District involvement in CVUSD field <br />operations/management? Is there opportunity to optimize scheduling use / maintenance of <br />public facilities? <br />
