CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />FEBRUARY 25, '1999 <br />7:30 P.M. <br />GOEBEL SENIOR ADULT CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Chair Holt called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m., and led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Holt, Lange, Berger, Jacobsen and Gibson <br />Directors Absent: None <br />Staff Present: General Manager Ward, Administrators Jorgensen, Sorensen, and <br />Washington, and Administrative Secretary Josephson <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br />Borchard Community Center — Dennis Gass <br />Washington introduced Recreation Supervisor Gass, who highlighted current <br />activities at Borchard Community Center. Mention was made of a new program <br />run by the Therapeutic Unit at Borchard Community Center, Wheelchair <br />Basketball. This program is held every other Monday evening. It started with 6 <br />participants, has increased to 12 and is gaining momentum. Two major events <br />coming up are the 12' Annual Spring Arts & Crafts Festival on March 13 & 14 <br />and the national award winning a Annual Baby Expo on May 1. <br />Gass introduced preschool teachers Michelle Drewniany, head of the preschool <br />program and Christy Hempel, her assistant. They began their presentation with a <br />slide show depicting different activities done at the preschool. She stated that <br />currently there were 88 children enrolled in two different preschool programs and <br />average attendance was 24 children/class. <br />In response to Board questions, Ms. Drewniany mentioned the class is held in the <br />Maintenance Building at Borchard Park, the cost is very competitive to other <br />privately run programs and although parents do not participate in the class, <br />parents are very satisfied with the way it is run. Additionally, a similar program is <br />offered at the Thousand Oaks Community Center and Conejo Community Center <br />
