1. <br />CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />FEBRUARY 15, 2001 <br />7:30 P.M. <br />GOEBEL SENIOR ADULT CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Chair Gibson called the meeting to order at 7:29 p.m., and Lange led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />3. <br />Directors Present: Berger, Gibson, Holt, Jacobsen, and Lange <br />Directors Absent: None <br />Staff Present: General Manager Ward, Administrators Benton and Jorgensen, <br />Recreation Services Manager Lindsey, Recreation Supervisor Gass, Recreation <br />Leader Castillo, and Executive Secretary Ohren <br />SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br />Conejo Creek Homework Club Dennis Gass <br />Gass presented an overview of the program, including a siiae presentation, and <br />introduced Recreation Leader Xochitl Castillo. He said that the program is held at <br />Conejo Creek Neighborhood Center; 90 percent of the participants are Latino; <br />attendance has doubled in one year; the goal is to improve grades; the program is <br />staffed by two recreation leaders, plus tutors from California Lutheran University <br />and local teenage volunteers; and the instruction is personalized. <br />Castillo reviewed her academic background, and shared her program observations. <br />Lindsey discussed funding sources, and said that a similar program is conducted at <br />Conejo Elementary School, and related efforts such as mentoring services are being <br />considered for other locations. <br />Berger suggested that a presentation be made to the Newbury Park Rotary Club. <br />The Board congratulated and thanked staff for their accomplishments. <br />4.
