CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 25, 2006 <br />7:30 P.M. <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Chair Gibson called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m., and Hamm led the flag <br />salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Berger, Gibson, Holt, Jacobsen and Lange <br />Directors Absent: None <br />Staff Present: General Manager Ward, Assistant General Manager Friedl, <br />Administrators Benton and Lewanda, Parks Superintendent Marchesano, Sr. Park <br />Planner Pluth, Recreation Supervisor Hamm, Recreation Coordinator Ricketts and <br />Executive Secretary Ohren <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br />Borchard Community Center Presentation — Patty Hamm <br />Hamm provided a slide presentation and summary of the following: staff, park <br />amenities, including a skate park and two playgrounds; center activities and <br />programs, including parent child classes, gymnastics, summer fun classes, adult <br />dancing, softball leagues, and teen excursions; and three community wide events <br />per year, including the July 4 pancake breakfast. <br />Board members commended Hamm on the informative and creative presentation <br />and the excellent programs offered at Borchard Community Center. <br />In response to Board inquiries, Hamm said that staff receives frequent requests for <br />another skate board park or an expansion of the Borchard facility; open skate <br />boarding is permitted Monday through Friday from 2 pm to 6 pm; and the picnic <br />pavilion can accommodate approximately a hundred people. <br />In response to Jacobsen's inquiry regarding the extent of usage of the concrete <br />amphitheater, Hamm said that it is used in after school and drama activities. <br />Jacobsen said that the need for such an amenity should be carefully evaluated in <br />future park designs. <br />
