CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />June 16, 2011 <br />7:30 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Jacobsen called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm and Recreation Services Manager Wiley <br />led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Gibson, Holt, Jacobsen, Jones, Lange <br />Directors Absent: None <br />Staff Present. General Manager Friedl, Administrators Hare, Lewanda and Linsdey, <br />Executive Assistant Reynders. <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATION <br />Therapeutic Recreation - "Special Olympics Programs" <br />Devon Herbert, Recreation Therapist, summarized the involvement of the Unit's <br />participants in the Special Olympics program. She then introduced Jan Radnoti, Sports <br />Manager of Special Olympics Ventura County, who commended the District for its <br />offerings to the community through therapeutics and her gratitude for same. She shared a <br />storyboard depicting two brothers with autism and the difference Special Olympics has <br />made in their lives. <br />Directors expressed their appreciation for the presentation and the joint efforts between <br />Therapeutics and Special Olympics. <br />Las Flores Community Garden Presentation, Kim Aguilar, President <br />Kim Aguilar, President of Las Flores Community Garden, presented an update on the <br />garden. There is currently a waiting list for plots —118 are rented and 20-27 people are on <br />the waiting list. A meeting will be held at the end of this month to discuss actively pursuing <br />plans for construction of a second garden in Newbury Park. Major improvements to the <br />garden over the last year include addition of a common sink and common area behind the <br />shed. This year plans include building a large pergola in the center of the garden. <br />
