Recreation & Community Services <br />Recreation Division Highlights Page 1 of 3 Revised 05.2024 <br />Recreation Division Highlights <br />Thursday, May 9, 2024 <br />Past Events <br />Dos Vientos Community Center <br />Thousand Oaks Chili Cook Off <br />On Sunday, May 5, the DVC Team brought the RecVan over to the Thousand Oaks Chili Cookoff at Conejo Creek North. Our team ran the Beaded Chilis craft, the Ball Toss Game, bandana coloring, and wooden ornament decorations. Hosting crafts allowed our team to spread the word about upcoming programs with CRPD and engage with about 200 visitors. <br />Borchard Community Center <br />Spring Skate Jam <br />On Saturday, April 27, Borchard Center hosted its Spring Skate Jam. There were 30 participants that competed in age categories: 10 and under, 11-14, 15-17 and 18 and over. Prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Food was sold by Rice Balls of Fire and Borchard staff/volunteers were there as judges for the contest as well as overseeing fun skate themed games and activities. <br /> Aquatic Recreation <br />Lifeguard Training and Safety <br />The Aquatics Unit had a successful weekend dedicated to the safety in and around the pool! 13 new lifeguards emerged ready to stand vigilant at the water's edge, equipped with 8 hours of online modules and 16 hours of hands-on training. Additionally, six new instructors rose to guide the next wave of lifesavers, ensuring that our pools and waterfront remain safe for everyone in our community. Cheers to a weekend of dedication, skill, and commitment to saving lives!
