CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRIC <br />BOARD OF • <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />October 5, 2023 <br />6:00 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />M I N U T E S I <br />Huffer called the meeting to order at 6:01 pm and Segedie led the flag salute. <br />k1. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Cusworth, Huffer, Lange and Nickles <br />Directors Absent: Buss <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrators Callis, Mooney and Smith, and <br />Executive Assistant Reynders <br />Conejo Valley Botanic Garden (CVBG) <br />Beverly Brune, President of the CVBG, shared an annual report, which included updates on <br />the progress of various projects made possible by grants from CRPD. Photos included newly <br />installed safety handrails, and a plaque honoring Maryanne Lucas, acknowledging her <br />generous garden donation. The Kid's Adventure Garden is a popular spot for children's <br />birthday parties, and there are a few topiaries that are in progress. This volunteer -run <br />organization is passionate about the Garden, and the volunteers are recognized at an annual <br />event where a single individual is awarded "Volunteer of the Year." Brune thanked the Board <br />of Directors for their continuing support and answered Board members' questions. She was <br />thanked for her long service to the CVBG and for the informative presentation. <br />Arts Council of the Conejo Valley (ACCV) <br />Susan Calkins, Vice President of the ACCV, shared ACCV's mission, which is to support the <br />local community's arts and artists. This is done in a variety of ways, including the student art <br />exhibition "Hang with the Best", Galleria and UBS shows, support of the Elementary Music <br />Program, the Young Artists Ensemble, summer Concerts in the Park, and the Richard and <br />Elaine Williams Legacy Scholarships. Of special note is the upcoming "Conejo Arts Jubilee" <br />which is being held at the Hillcrest Center on Saturday, October 14th; all Board members and <br />CRPD staff are encouraged to attend. Fostering artistic engagement in the community is the <br />ACCV's ultimate goal. Calkins answered Board member's questions and was thanked for her <br />informative presentation. <br />
