CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />March 2, 2023 <br />6:00 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />M I N U T E S <br />Huffer called the meeting to order at 6:01 pm and Lange led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Buss, Huffer, Lange and Nickles <br />Directors Absent: Cusworth <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrators Callis, Mooney and Smith, and <br />Executive Assistant Reynders <br />(Cusworth arrived 6:02pm) <br />Safe Passage Youth Program <br />Tim Hagel, Executive Director of the Safe Passage Youth Program, provided an update <br />on the Program. He reviewed its beginnings, which started with 12 children in a <br />homework club; Safe Passage now serves 600 children for free. It is an outreach <br />program designed to steer children away from participating in troublesome behavior and <br />possible gang affiliation. Although its primary partner is the Conejo Recreation and Park <br />District, Safe Passage partners with multiple agencies throughout the Conejo Valley. <br />Hagel shared some Program statistics and components and stated that the goal is to <br />make a safe community by meeting the needs of a community. Since the start of the <br />Safe Passage Youth Program, gang population decreased by 50% in less than nine <br />years and micro -community crime is down.
