Lange, Director <br />Chuck Huffer, Director <br />Doug Nickles, Director <br />GENERAL MANAGER EMERITUS <br />Tex Ward <br />Since the recent 2012-2016 drought period, the District adopted the principles of the California Water <br />Action Plan by "Making Water Conservation a California Way of Life". Long-range climate modeling <br />strongly indicates a hotter and drier Southern California in the future and as the region enters into another <br />severe drought, without a strong commitment by the District to water conservation, the water resources in <br />the Conejo Valley are significantly jeopardized. <br />Since 2013, the District has completed numerous waterwise Capital Projects totaling more than <br />$5,000,000, allocating at least $300,000 per year for drought response projects. The District will continue <br />this financial commitment for the foreseeable future. The District is dedicated to building upon its bast <br />efforts, moving forward, continuing to do its "fair share", and being a leader in the community with regard <br />to water conservation. <br />These conservation efforts include- <br />* Converting 70+ acres of turf to drought -tolerant landscaping. <br />Converting from potable to reclaimed irrigation where possible. <br />Developing new parks with waterwise improvements. <br />Resulting in 33% overall reduction of water consumption. <br />Current Drought Response - Districtwide <br />On March 3, 2022, staff provided and the Board approved additional drought guidelines (Exhibit 1). Staff <br />has been/will be implementing Tier 1 Guideline measures and removing additional turf at various parks. <br />On May 24, 2022, the Thousand Oaks City Council adopted Level 4 water restrictions due to water supply <br />shortage requiring a reduction of 31-40% and one day a week watering for landscape (with parks are <br />allowed an additional day of watering).
