CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF • <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />April 21, 2022 <br />6:00 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />M I N U T E S <br />Cusworth called the meeting to order at 6:01 pm and Ruwhiu led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Cusworth, Holt, Huffer, Lange and Nickles <br />Directors Absent: <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrators Callis, Hare and Smith, and <br />Executive Assistant Reynders <br />Marc Gann, Equipment Operator, gave a presentation, outlining examples of the various <br />projects he performs throughout the District and the machinery he uses to accomplish a wide <br />variety of tasks, both within the District and with partner agencies. A few District examples <br />include the annual "Touch -a -Truck" event, field refurbishments, building of retaining walls, pond <br />cleaning, material recycling, emergency response (flooding, landslides, hazardous trees, etc.), <br />and assistance with special project creations, such as the Gratitude Circle. Work with partner <br />agencies includes time spent assisting the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency <br />(COSCA) Park Rangers with trail widening, and the City of Thousand Oaks with weed <br />abatement and placing forms ahead of the July 4t" fireworks. Gann answered Board member's <br />questions and was thanked for his informative presentation. <br />Megan McDonough, HCFA Recreation Coordinator, appeared via Zoom and acknowledged <br />the presence at the meeting of Brianne Anderson, HCFA Recreation Supervisor and Melissa <br />Ruwhiu, Recreation Services Manager. The presentation included a review of the forty-two <br />years of Teen Summer Musicals — beginning with "L'il Abner." This program has impacted the <br />lives of teens ever since. She shared the challenges faced over the years as the program has <br />grown, including finding venues for the performances, the casting process, which has become <br />very competitive, and the unique issues surrounding the continuation of the program during <br />the pandemic.
