The Thousand Oaks Teen <br />Center held its first large-scale event since reopening and saw 275 youth in <br />attendance at the Back-to-School Party for Middle School students. The Goebel <br />Adult Community Center was a voting site for the California Gubernatorial Recall <br />Election and was quite busy. The Goebel Café has reopened to the public and <br />continues to serve the Senior Nutrition Program participants. The Reign of Terror <br />Haunted House is selling tickets and opens on Friday, September 24. The most <br />recent mask mandate requires that face coverings be worn during all indoor sports, <br />which has led to a few challenging situations for staff. The Employment Development <br />Department (EDD) is auditing the District’s classification of certain independent <br />contractors as a result of California Assembly Bill 5 (AB-5). <br /> <br />C. Management Services Division Report <br /> <br /> Smith had no report. <br /> <br />D. General Manager’s Report <br /> <br /> Friedl thanked Callis for serving as acting General Manager during his recent absence. <br />He reminded the Directors of the upcoming Association of Water Agencies (AWA) <br />Member and Policy-Maker Reception that will be held on Thursday, September 30 at <br />the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. A Borderline Anniversary event will be held at <br />Conejo Creek North Park the weekend of November 7. Huffer inquired about <br />government mandates to have employees be vaccinated against COVID-19. With well <br />over 100 employees, Friedl asserted that the District would likely be subject to any <br />potential mandates that are implemented. <br /> <br />E. Directors Reports and Follow-up Reports on Meetings/Conferences Attended <br /> <br />Lange, Holt and Nickles attended the California Special Districts Association (CSDA) <br />annual conference in Monterey. CRPD received the District Transparency Certificate <br />of Excellence. In addition, Friedl was honored with the Ralph Heim Public Outreach & <br />Advocacy Award, and Ventura County Special Districts Association was deemed the <br />Chapter of the Year. Friedl thanked Kyle Jorrey of the Acorn Newspaper and Danielle <br />Borja of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce for their assistance in the <br />application process for the District Transparency Certificate of Excellence. <br /> <br />Several of the Directors attended the final Summer Concert in the Park. Cusworth, <br />Huffer, and Lange, attended a movie night at McCrea Ranch. Lange attended a <br />meeting of the MRCA Board of Directors. Nickles attended meetings of the California <br />Association of Recreation & Park Districts (CARPD) Board of Directors and the Conejo <br />Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA) Board of Directors.
