GENERAL MANAGER
Jim Friedl
DATE: August 26, 2021
TO: Board of Directors
FROM: Jim Friedl, General Manager
SUBJECT: Appointment to the Goebel Senior Center Commission
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Doug Nickles, Chair
Nellie Cusworth, Vice Chair
George M. Lange, Director
Susan L. Holt, Director
Chuck Huffer, Director
GENERAL MANAGER EMERITUS
Tex Ward
Approve the appointment of Christine Maccarone to the Goebel Senior Center Commission.
The Goebel Senior Center Commission is an elected body with up to 15 members, and annually, in
compliance with their bylaws, the Commission holds elections in March. Commission terms are normally
three years and five terms come up for election each year.
Due to COVID-1 9, the 2020 and 2021 elections did not take place and all Commissioner terms have
been extended. In November 2019, Commissioner Betty Berry resigned, leaving a vacancy that would
have normally been filled during the next election cycle.
At the June 30 meeting of the Goebel Senior Center Commission, the Commission voted to hold a
special election to fill the current vacancy. Candidates were taken from the eligibility list of applicants that
was established prior to COVID-1 9. The eligibility list consisted of three applicants. The application of the
candidate nominated for Board appointment is attached.
In advance of the election, interviews were held with applicants by the Applicant Review Ad Hoc
Committee made up of Commissioners Sandy Barry, Mary Fineroff, and Joanie Ruben. Director Holt
observed the interview process. As a result of the interviews, the Applicant Review Ad Hoc Committee
made a recommendation to the Commission.
At the July 28 meeting of the Goebel Senior Center Commission, the special election was conducted,
and an applicant was recommended to fill the vacancy and serve on the Commission. The new
Commissioner will carry out the remaining term of the vacancy, ending June 30, 2024, effective
immediately upon appointment approval. The result of the election was as follows: Christine Maccarone
received majority votes.
ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES
403 West Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360-4223
805-495-6471 1 Fax: 805-497-3199 1 parks@crpd.org I www.crpd.org
