Recreation & Community Services
Recreation Division Highlights Page 1 of 4 Revised 04.2021
Recreation Division Highlights
Thursday, April 29, 2021
Sports Office at Hillcrest Center
Adult Cornhole League

Adult sports are back! Cornhole is our first adult sports league that we have been able to offer in
over a year. We have eight teams playing on Sunday nights. The league will run for six weeks (April 18 – June 6). Games are played at the Thousand Oaks Community Center on Soccer Field #1. After
two weeks of matches, all of the participants are happy to be out and playing sports again.
Aquatic Recreation
Aquatics offered two days of Try-Outs & Interviews this past month, one on Saturday, April 17 and
the other on Saturday, April 24. The tryout consists of a 500-yard freestyle swim, a 2-minute tread (with hands out of the water), a 150-yard medley swim (butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke),
and 10 pull-outs where the candidates lift themselves out of the water and jump back in.
We had a very successful recruitment process this year, with 30 applicants successfully completing
the try-out and interview process. Our candidates will now attend Rookie School on Saturday, May 1, where we will evaluate their skills, communications, and teamwork.
In total we have 28 year-round staff, 16 returning staff, and 30 new hires, bringing our summer staff total to 74. We will continue to accept applications and hire additional lifeguards if needed
throughout the summer.
