The skateboarding classes at the Borchard
Community Center have doubled in number this year but are still not able to accommodate all of the prospective
youth participants. The center is recruiting for an additional instructor to further increase the available spaces. A
similar trend has been observed at the Aquatic Recreation Unit, where there is simply not enough pool space to
accommodate more swimmers. Finally, the drive-thru Halloween event, led by the Thousand Oaks Community Center
staff, sold out rather quickly and we were only able to safely accommodate so many vehicles.
Most units had to cancel many classes that were scheduled because of changes in the COVID-19 prevention
guidelines. Staff also tried adding new or modified programs that would have operated within the guidelines, but
many of these did not receive adequate registration to run. Many popular programs are simply not quite the same in
a virtual format.
