Conejo Recreation & Park District
GENERAL MANAGER
Jim Friedl
DATE: March 19, 2020
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
George M. Lange, Chair
Doug Nickles, Vice Chair
Susan L. Holt, Director
Chuck Huffer, Director
Nellie Cusworth, Director
GENERAL MANAGER EMERITUS
TO: Board of Directors Tex Ward
FROM: Jim Friedl, General Mana
SUBJECT: Updates to Maintenan Work Job Specifications and Additional Position
RECOMMENDATION
Update job specifications for the Maintenance Worker series of positions.
2. Add Maintenance Worker 11 position (range 41).
3. Appropriate $40,000 in the Equipment Reserve Fund for a truck and accessories.
DISCUSSION
Parks and Planning staff continually evaluates the level of work required by the Division. With the transfer
of maintenance responsibilities for the Alex Fiore Teen Center and the Goebel Adult Community Center
from the City of Thousand Oaks (CTO) to CRPD, and to provide more effective and efficient maintenance
services at the Community Pool at Cal Lutheran University (CLU), updates to job specification as noted in
attachments and an additional Maintenance Worker II position is recommended.
Historically, the CTO has provided maintenance services to the Teen and Senior Centers. In June, 2019,
we updated the Joint Operating Agreement, and CRPD took over these services. Maintenance at the
Community Pool at CLU has historically been the responsibility of the pool staff; however, with the
combination of the aging facility and the continued success of the pool, shared maintenance
responsibilities is prudent at this time.
This action adds a full-time position to the District, and the timing allows for a recruitment such that the
position will be filled on July 1, the start of Fiscal Year (FY) 2020-21. Accordingly, no additional
salary/benefit appropriation is required in this fiscal year. If approved, the costs of the position, estimated
an annual cost of $96,600 will be included in the FY 2020-21 budget. However, it is recommended that
$40,000 be appropriated in this fiscal year to allow for time to acquire a truck and accessories.
STRATEGIC PLAN COMPLIANCE
Meets Strategic Plan Element 6.1: Perform regular updates to District job descriptions.
Respectfully- submitted by,
Sheryl anda
or, anagement Services
Tom Hare
Administrator, Parks and Planning
ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES
403 West Hillcrest Drive I Thousand Oaks, CA 91360-4223
(805) 495-6471 1 FAX: (805) 497-3199 1 Email: parks@crpd.org I Website: www.crpd.org
