Terry Garcia is against the bark being replaced in the park and would like to see a different option used, such as stone; she would like to see a solution for the burnt odor in the park. Alison Manger believes the fire department requirements should be revisited. She'd like to see an increase in park amenities and is unhappy with the mulch. Jillian Weaver disagrees with putting mulch back in the park and would like to see the grass put back. Jill Humphries believes the community needs to be educated re: global warming and climate change and thinks there are a lot of good reasons why bark chips should be used in the park. Monte Traficante thinks the mulch made the park very hard to use and the rehab of the park should be designed around its actual use. John Roughan is looking for an explanation as to the pattern of the fire damage. Sue Trump does not want wood chips and wants another viable solution found. Tom Boone believes the issue is about what is smart to do, despite what is legally required. He questioned who should bear the responsibility of a defensible strategy should another fire occur. Hare responded to a number of the residents' concerns and also answered Board member's questions. Hare said fire safety has been taken into consideration moving forward and that staff recommendations meet current code requirements and were arrived at after consultation with the experts who presented this evening. Discussion ensued. It was moved by Lange, seconded by Holt, and carried 5-0 to: 1. Receive and file report on fire response and recovery efforts. 2. Provide input on conceptual landscape design at NRNP and authorize staff to proceed with park completion. B. Confirmation of Board Appointments and Assignments Friedl reported this item is being revisited after being presented to the Board at their meeting on December 6, 2018. The report includes descriptions of each committee and contains suggested Board member assignments for the current year. Staff recommends eliminating the Capital Projects ad hoc and Off Leash Area ad hoc committees.
