In addition, a larger space (i.e., 100 seats) for music and theatrical productions with permanent sound and lighting equipment would provide for small performance groups wishing to do new and/or experimental material that would not be financially feasible in the Janet and Ray Scherr Forum Theatre. The need for rehearsal space by many local performance groups could also be met in this community use facility. There is also the possibility that the Young Artists Ensemble could locate their productions to this site (currently, performances take place during a single weekend in the Janet and Ray Scherr Forum Theatre). This would be ideal, as they could rehearse in the performance space and multiple performance opportunities would provide an enhanced experience for the young performers. Coneio Valley Unified School District Considerations Preliminary discussions have taken place with the Conejo Valley Unified School District Superintendent regarding possible use of classrooms or a community meeting room by the adult school. The Superintendent indicated that use of one of the classrooms for adult school would be feasible. Related Uses for Entire 401 Hillcrest Site The 401 Hillcrest site has been largely preserved in its original state since its dedication to the City for public use in the late sixties. Recently, the south building has been renovated to its original exterior design, and modernized within as offices for the National Park Service. Plans for a similar renovation of the north building will bring the complex back to its original form. Landscaping for both buildings, the parking areas and the entry drive are ready for bid, featuring additional mature oak trees placed along the entry, new lighting and restoration of hillsides and planters to natural landscape materials. The north building will echo the south building in the restoration of the exterior to the original design; the interior will also be modernized for reuse. Plans include space for a cafe looking out on a restored central patio area between the two buildings overlooking the valley to the south, featuring a fountain and seating areas. The improvements include a new elevator similar to that at the south building, and landscaped and improved patios adjacent to the building.
