Lange, Director <br />Ed Jones, Director <br />Chuck Huffer, Director <br />GENERAL MANAGER EMERITUS <br />Tex Ward <br />DATE: July 5, 2018 <br />TO: Board of Directors <br />FROM: Jim Friedl, General Mana <br />SUBJECT: Proposed New Full -Ti Infor tion Technology Technician Position <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve new full-time position and job description for Information Technology Technician <br />(Range 41). <br />DISCUSSION <br />Over the past several years the District has increased its use of information technology (IT) assets <br />significantly. Staff are increasingly utilizing and relying on information technology to assist in their <br />job functions. Some of these increased utilizations include: Office 365, Sharepoint, Logos <br />financial/HR software, offsite mobility, and wireless access. Support demands on Information <br />Technology staff have also dramatically increased. Some of the areas of increased support <br />include: securing over 150 device;; districtwide, maintaining private and public wireless at nine <br />district locations, deploying additional Logos modules, public computer lab support, meeting <br />support, Office 365 deployments, and Sharepoint implementation. <br />As the District deploys these new technologies, security is becoming an even greater concern <br />with increasing devices and end users. Staff are also increasingly utilizing mobile devices, which <br />add an additional layer of complexity. Ongoing automation efforts of formerly manual processes <br />is another area where IT staff are needed. <br />To continue to operate the information technology unit to meet the District's needs, staff is <br />recommending another full-time position be added to the unit, from one to two, creating stability <br />and providing support to the IT Analyst to operate the unit. <br />Staff researched other comparable IT positions in the area and developed a job specification <br />accordingly.
