CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />June 1, 2017 <br />7:00 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Lange called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm and Douence, Hock, Simic, Sinderbrand, and <br />Targum led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Gibson, Holt, Huffer, Jones, Lange <br />Directors Absent: <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrators Callis, Hare, and Lewanda, and <br />Executive Assistant Reynders <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br />Conejo Open Space Trails Education Days Writing Contest Winners — Elayne Haggan <br />Chloe Douence — Lang Ranch Elementary School <br />Elle Hock — Banyan Elementary School <br />Will Simic — Westlake Elementary School <br />Justin Sinderbrand — Lang Ranch Elementary School <br />Sarah Targum — Westlake Hills Elementary School <br />Haggan acknowledged all of the winners and their teachers; this is the Trails Education Days' 26"' <br />year. In that time over 45,000 students have participated. There were 750 essay entries; the <br />judging committee narrowed the entries down to the five grand prize winners being honored this <br />evening. Friedl presented each student with a gift on behalf of the District. Board members offered <br />their congratulations to the students and their families and acknowledged Haggan for her ongoing <br />dedication to COSTAC. <br />Goebel Adult Community Center — USO Show <br />Patty Hamm, Recreation Supervisor, presented an overview and highlights from the USO Show <br />and Breakfast held last Veterans Day -- a patriotic and heartfelt event intended to honor and <br />recognize senior veterans. The Goebel Senior Center Commission provided funding and hands-on <br />assistance on the day of the event. Local and professional talent is utilized to entertain, and care <br />packages are distributed, which include cards and letters thanking the veterans for their service. <br />Hamm answered Board member's questions and was thanked for her informative presentation, <br />
